Empresas CMPC, the chilean pulp, paper and paperboard manufacturing company, has been recognized for leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its prestigious ‘A List’ for tackling climate change, as well as acting to protect forests – two of the three environmental themes covered by CDP.

Through significant and demonstrable action on climate and deforestation risks, Empresas CMPC, is leading on corporate environmental ambition, action and transparency worldwide.

“At CMPC we are very proud of having been included on CDP's A List once again this year. We continue to be committed more than ever to implementing our sustainable development strategy. We aim to offer the best solutions based on renewable fibers and to also fulfill the ambitious environmental goals we have proposed. We believe that sustainability is essential for corporate resilience going forward”, stated CMPC CEO Francisco Ruíz-Tagle.

A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets. Those that don’t disclose or provided insufficient information are marked with an F.

Regarding CMPC's results and the prestigious position it holds, it is worth noting that in the Forestry questionnaire worldwide only 13 companies obtained an A score, CMPC being the only one in Chile and part of the 4 within the American continent; in the Climate Change questionnaire worldwide only 117 companies obtained an A score, forming the select group of 37 companies in America and the only one in Chile; finally, in terms of water safety, CMPC obtained an A- score, this being the best score in Chile.
