CMPC participated in Chile Week, China, earlier this month, the most important promotional event for Chile in China. Organized annually by ProChile, this eighth edition was the first face-to-face meeting since the pandemic and was attended by the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, ministers, deputies, ambassadors and industry leaders, as well as representatives of various Chinese companies and authorities.
It was during this week that CMPC and Euroports, an important port company and operator of CMPC's main port for global shipments, signed a cooperation and technical assistance agreement. In addition, Cristián Bonacic, Director of the CMPC-UC Chair of Biodiversity and Sustainable Development, held a workshop on forest protection. In the courtyard, meanwhile, we had a Fiber's Melody stand which provided an opportunity for attendees to drop by and get to know us.
José Tomás Corthorn, Chief Representative of CMPC Asia, spoke about our Bioeconomy roadmap at the closing session, which included presentations from Chile’s Ambassador, the Director of ProChile, ChilePork, the retail giants Alibaba and Hema and two important Chinese technology centers.
"Almost 40% of Chilean exports are destined for China, which has been our country's main trading partner for more than a decade. We took the chance to raise awareness of CMPC both offline and online through our events in Beijing and Shanghai. We’ve seen many new opportunities arise as a result and we now need to work to capture the new value we have created," said José Tomás Corthorn.
