Alessandri Nacimiento Park Celebrates Its First Month With More Than 10 Thousand Visitors

22 Sep 2021

Located on the grounds of the former CMPC Pulp stadium, Alessandri Nacimiento Park was born as an initiative in 2015 when the CMPC Board approved the initial resources for its construction. It was then determined that the CMPC Foundation, through its cultural area, would be in charge of carrying out, managing, executing and maintaining the project, which will be completely free for the visiting public.

The urban design and the architectural and landscape installation were the responsibility of the prominent Chilean architect and landscape designer Juan Grimm. In the almost 5 hectares of land, paths with native trees, bushes, plants and flowers were installed – all indigenous to the national territory (such as coigüe, peumo, quillay, lingue, olivillo, chestnut, oak and raulí, among others.) There’s also a two-sided artificial lake, playgrounds, gardens and benches for resting.

The impact of the park for this area has been significant, especially considering that Nacimiento, despite its roughly 26,000 inhabitants, doesn’t have a central plaza. "It’s a tremendous contribution, how they’ve rehabilitated an abandoned site for the community to visit," says Marisa Gutiérrez.

"The view is spectacular. It’s a very quiet place and I like that it’s so spacious, because I like to read outdoors and the park has everything you need to do so comfortably," says Max Salazar, a Nacimiento youth who found Alessandri Park to be a natural refuge near his home.

In its first month open to the public, more than 10,000 visitors have walked the paths of this new park, located in the urban center of Nacimiento in the region of Biobío, Chile. They come in groups, as couples, families, together or even alone like Max, to experience, in his case, a pleasant afternoon reading outdoors.
